Last year, the Lavendar Lobbyists managed to beat back yet another attempt to put a ban on same-sex marriage in the North Carolina Constitution--for those of you, who are into maps, we are the only state in the Southeast without such a ban. I realize it seems strange that North Carolina is a state without a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage--after all we're one of the few states that still has sodomy laws on the books after Lawrence v. Texas--but it's a fact because of Equality North Carolina.

Last year, Forrester introduced the Defense of Marriage Bill, which I affectionately nicknamed DoMB(pronounced like the word dumb). The bill would have effectively banned same-sex marriage AND all unions except "traditional" heterosexual marriages (read: no domestic partnerships, no civil unions, nada, zip, zilch). While I appreciate Senator Forrester's all-or-nothing/go-getter attitude, I obviously have a few problems with his legislation.

This year, ENC will face more bigotted legislation, and I am confident that they will come out on top. This is because of the work of staffers like Ian Palmquist, Shawn Long, Kay Flamingo, and Rebecca Mann. I'm proud to have you!
