As many of you may have heard, the LGBT community has experienced its 9th bullying related suicide of an LGBT teen in the past month. This statistic boils down to 2.25 suicides per week, with a grand total of 108 suicides per year that are strictly related to anti-LGBT bullying.
Currently, the there are several on-campus organizations and offices that are working to raise awareness on-campus about anti-LGBT bullying and make sure that the UNCW community is aware that bullying is not limited to K-12 children, and that it affects all ages.
We will be releasing more information as programs are solidified, but here's what we have for now:
And for the record, here are those who we've lost in the month of September alone:

- Randall Library is currently working on forming a resource guide addressing bullying and privacy that will be displayed on the library's website.
- The LGBTQIA Resource Office and Centro Hispano have posted both Ellen DeGeneres' PSA and a link to the It Gets Better Project on their websites. PRIDE will be following suit by posting both on our main website and here on the blog. Links to both have already been placed on the PRIDE Facebook group.
- Several offices on campus are working on coordinating a Wake Up / Stand Up Rally & Vigil for those who have lost their lives sometime in the next two weeks. The event will be held in the Amphitheater and anyone who is interested in speaking at the event should notify Amy Schlag at schlaga@uncw.edu.
